Classroom Management

Clip Chart

All sections of second grade at Eagle Ridge use a Clip Chart to manage behavior. This creates uniformity among all the classrooms when students rotate for various subjects. Each teacher has the same expectations for their students. The second grade teachers established this system and tailored it to fit with the Pillars at Eagle Ridge.

These are the five levels on the Clip Chart:

 Honorable Citizen

Gaining Excellence

Ready to Learn

Think About It

Parent Contact

Honorable Citizen

This is the top tier of the behavior chart. Students who are going far above and beyond expectations will move their clip to the Honorable Citizen tier. When a student reaches this level they will receive a Pillar Sticker for Citizenship.

Gaining Excellence

This tier is one level above Ready to Learn. A student who is  going above and beyond expectations will move their clip to this tier.

Ready to Learn

This tier is one level below Gaining Excellence. This tier is where students will begin each day. The Ready to Learn tier represents that they are conducting themselves in a manner that reflects what is expected of an Eagle Ridge student.

Think About It

This tier is one level below Ready to Learn. A student who is conducting themselves in an academic manner that does not represent Eagle Ridge will be given a reminder. If the behavior continues, they will move their clip to Think About It. Students are able to move back up to Ready to Learn and higher tiers after they have reflected on their actions and are ready to learn.

Parent Contact

This tier is two levels below Read the Learn. If a student's clip ends the day on Parent Contact, the teacher will contact parents by phone or email. Students who end the day on Parent Contact will not be allowed to attend Pillar Club that week.

Classroom Fuzzy Jar

Throughout the day, the students transition to several classes such as PE, Music, Art, and Latin. During these classes, the class can earn up to five fuzzies for our jar based on whole class behavior and participation. The class can also earn marbles for compliments by other adults in the hallways. Once we fill our Fuzzy Jar, we have a Fuzzy Party. We will determine Fuzzy Parties as a class.

Pillar Club

Purpose:To reward and acknowledge students who consistently demonstrate behavior that exemplifies the Pillars of Eagle Ridge

When: Friday afternoons for 20 minutes

Expectations:
• Behave in a responsible & respectable manner according to the Pillars
• Finish classwork
• Complete & return homework, on-time
• Come prepared to class each day of the week

What it looks like:
• Students come together to participate in an activity planned by the hosting teacher. The activities include crafts, art projects, games, extra recess, videos, etc…
• The students not attending Pillar Club will attend Study Hall where they will have quiet time to reflect on their behavior or complete unfinished work. They will also complete a Pillar Club Notice explaining why they were not able to attend Pillar Club. Pillar Club Notices must be signed and returned to school on the next day of school.
• Students have a fresh start each week to be a part of Pillar Club.
